Kwami Sefa Kayi: From Grass to Media Icon

Kwami Sefa Kayi, also known as Chairman General, is a prominent Ghanaian media personality, broadcast journalist, and public speaker. His journey from humble beginnings to becoming a top figure in the media industry is both inspiring and remarkable.

Born on June 20, 1970, Kwami Sefa Kayi hails from Ghana. He completed his secondary school education at Okuapeman Secondary School in Akropong Akuapem. His formative years laid the foundation for his future success, instilling in him a strong work ethic and a passion for communication.

Sefa Kayi’s career in broadcasting began to take shape when he joined Peace FM, a prominent radio station in Ghana. He became the host of the station’s morning show, affectionately known as “Kokrokoo.” His engaging style, insightful interviews, and ability to tackle pressing issues endeared him to listeners across the country.

Notably, Sefa Kayi hosted the maiden edition of the Ghana Music Awards until 2007, showcasing his versatility as a presenter. In 2019, he co-hosted the 20th VGMA (Vodafone Ghana Music Awards) alongside Berla Mundi, further solidifying his status as a respected media personality.

Beyond his broadcasting career, Sefa Kayi is a philanthropist with a heart for giving back. He established the Kokrokoo Foundation in 2015, aiming to make a positive impact on society. One of the foundation’s notable initiatives was the “Project 100,” which aimed to provide at least 100 incubators to various health institutions in Ghana. By April 2021, they had successfully provided 35 incubators, contributing to the reduction of infant mortality rates among pre-term babies. Currrently, he is  about providing the 60th incubator.

Sefa Kayi’s contributions have not gone unnoticed. He received the Radio and Television Personalities (RTP) Personality of the Decade award for the period 2010–2020. His dedication to broadcasting, philanthropy, and community development has left an indelible mark on Ghana’s media landscape.
