Dr. George Akuffo Dampare: Ghana’s Youngest IGP

Dr. George Akuffo Dampare holds the distinction of being the youngest IGP to be appointed in the Fourth Republic of Ghana. His journey within the police force began when he joined as a Constable in December 1990, at the age of 20. Over the years, he climbed the ranks, demonstrating exceptional leadership and commitment to his duties.

1. Best Recruit and Cadet Officer:

  • In 1991, upon completing his recruit training, Dr. Dampare was named the overall Best Recruit at the National Police Training School.
  • In 1996, he emerged as the overall Best Cadet for the 32nd Cadet Officers’ Course at the Ghana Police Academy (formerly known as the Police College).

2. Leadership Roles: Dr. Dampare has held several critical leadership positions within the Ghana Police Service:Director-General for Administration;

3. Anti-Armed Robbery Initiative: Between 2010 and 2015, Dr. Dampare led and coordinated the ‘National Anti-armed Robbery Reward to Informant Initiative.’
This initiative resulted in the arrest and prosecution of numerous notorious armed robbers across the country.

Dr. Dampare assumed the role of acting IGP on August 1, 2021, following the retirement of the previous IGP. His confirmation and swearing-in took place on October 8, 2021.
